Israeli strike on a bridge and new attacks in Beirut signal an escalation as the military campaign against Hezbollah enters a new phase.
Israel has threatened Lebanon with devastation similar to that inflicted on Gaza after striking infrastructure and expanding attacks in and around Beirut as its military campaign against Hezbollah intensifies.

Early Friday, Israeli forces destroyed the Zrarieh bridge in southern Lebanon, which crosses the Litani River. The Israeli military said Hezbollah fighters used the crossing to move between the north and south of the country, but it did not present evidence to support that claim.
Since the current offensive began, this was the first time Israel publicly acknowledged targeting civilian infrastructure.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said additional attacks of this kind would follow and warned that the Lebanese government would face “increasing costs due to damage to infrastructure and loss of territory” as long as Hezbollah remains armed.
Areas of Beirut that had not previously been targeted in the conflict were also struck on Friday. Attacks were reported in the neighborhoods of Nabaa and Jnah, while a drone hit a residential building in Bourj Hammoud on the northeastern outskirts of the capital.
At least eight people were killed in Fawwar, and nine others died in Arki, near Sidon, including five children. An ambulance was also struck by a vehicle in the south of the country.
The latest Israeli offensive against Lebanon began on March 2 after Hezbollah launched drones and rockets into northern Israel in retaliation for Israeli attacks on Iran that killed the Iranian supreme leader.
According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health, Israeli attacks since then have killed at least 773 people and injured 1,933, including 103 children. Around 800,000 people — roughly one in seven residents — have been displaced from their homes.
The escalation has widened the scope of the attacks across Lebanon while increasing civilian casualties and displacement.
